Thank you, Hanano chan

Asahi Shimbun, 12th July 2013

Mr. & Mrs. Oyama who lived in Singapore, lost their daughter, little Hanano chan but saved the life of another.

On the evening of 29th June, little Hanano chan (aged 1yr 6mths) was found unconcious in the pool at her mansion. Although doctors managed to revive her heart after about 40mins, she was pronounced 'brain dead'. On the fourth day after the incident, x-rays had revealed no blood supply to her brain. Her pupils were not responding to stimulants too.

It was then that the option of donating Hanano's organs was explained to both parents. It was the first time Mr. & Mrs. Oyama knew of such an option. But both did not hesitate to agree to the donation.

"We understand how devastating it is for parents to lose a child. This will mean that someone will not be losing a child like us."

At this reporting, one kidney has been transplanted.

"We wish to meet this child who has received her kidney, so that we can hug the child and tell him to try his best!"

In Japan, since 17th July, 2010, laws have been amended to allow for kids to donate their organs. However, there has so far been only 1 case of a child below 6yrs old having donated. Above report is the first time a donator's name has been revealed publicly.
