Senior Priority

Asahi Shimbun, 15th July 2013

In a commentary written by a journalist (見市紀世子), it was mentioned that the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare spends about 52trillion yen (over 10years) on senior citizens compared to less than 6trillion yen on families with kids. Japan is putting much more emphasis on seniors.

Turnout rate for senior citizens at voting is high, so to attract their votes, politicians are said to adopt 'Seniors Doctrine'. Younger generations today and future generations are not qualified to vote, although they will be the ones facing the burden in the future.

This writer implores senior voters to vote with the future generations in mind. Instead of 'Senior doctrine', let it be 'Kids doctrine'.
