New Year again!

The average Japanese may not feel it, but the shops in Tokyo's shopping belt must feel like it's the New Year all over again! With the Chinese New Year looming near, many Chinese tourists are coming to Japan for their shopping sprees again. To target these Chinese mega-shoppers, many shops are releasing Lucky Bags for sale.

Lucky Bags are common during the New Year season in Japan. Shops nationwide sell such bags on the first few days of the New Year. Such bags always contain goods with a total value that exceeds the price of the bags themselves. For example, a ¥5,000 Lucky Bag will contain items worth more than ¥5,000, with sometimes a double or triple value.

The catch is this : while the most common prices for Lucky Bags for Japanese are generally less than ¥10,000, Lucky Bags released this week for the Chinese are priced at ¥88,000(US$730), ¥888,000(US$7,330) and even higher! There is at least one store offering Lucky Bags at ¥8,880,000(US$74,000) !!!

No wonder everybody loves the Chinese these days!
