For Mrs. Yamamoto(42) who has been hospitalized since last autumn, going to a Hanami (Sakura viewing) in spring was out of the question. Her sickness did not allow her to venture out into the open. She was only allowed to return home once a month for 2 days and the rest of her days must be spent in a bacteria free room.
Mrs. Yamamoto had been looking forward to a Hanami with her husband and 2 sons (Pri. 6 & 4). To grant her wish, her doctor introduced her to 'Orihime', a robot with a camera and a mike attached. It can send images from afar and allow for communication. In March this year, Mr. Yamamoto and their sons went Hanami with 'Orihime'. Mrs. Yamamoto could control the robot from her hospital room to focus in the direction she wished. She could also converse with her family. In this way, the Yamamotos spent a day together enjoying the sakuras together.
