Sumo Wrestler went on Ramadan fast

Reported on 7Days TV news on 27th July 2013

An upcoming Japanese sumo wrestler from Eygpt, 大砂嵐(pronounced as OosunaArashi), was able to fast according to his religion this month while training in the traditional sport. Even though the training of a sumo wrestler is demanding, and temperature reached above 37degrees celcius in Nagoya, this sumo wrestler was able to successfully carry out his fastings, thanks in part to his supportive 'parent and brothers' in his house.

A traditional sport in Japan, which in recent years has seen an influx of foreign wrestlers, this mark of support by the sumo circle is unprecedented. Instead of forcing this sumo wrestler to abide by the rules of his house, the 親方 (master) was very understanding. His fellows wrestlers actually went way out to support him by cooking him his favourite Ramadan dish at break fast time. That's the spirit!
