Stores are dedicating more store-space to the sales of 'Nursing Food'. With the aging population and an increasing number of old folks being nursed from homes, there is an increasing trend in the varieties of such 'Nursing Food'. Food makers are not just offering soft foods and foods cut into small sizes for easy consumption. They are also working at offering foods that are tasty to wet the appetite of these old folks.
According to the Ministry of Labour (as at Feb), there are about 3.5million old folks who are receiving nursing care at home, four times that of the number at nursing homes. This number is seen to rise in the future. The market for such 'Nursing Food' is estimated at 13billion yen in 2011.
