Asahi Shimbun, 29/March 2014

In a report published by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, it was estimated that in the year 2050, 60% of the land in Japan will be uninhabitated. This is a 20% increase of the amount of land that is uninhabitated now. This is the first time the ministry conducted such a calculation on the usage of land with respect to a decrease in the country's population.
