In yet another twist to the Olympic Stadium saga unfolding in Tokyo, it was reported this morning that the Olympic Torch had been (FORGOTTEN)left out in the design of the new Olympic Stadium. Last year, after much hackling and finger pointing, it was determined that the original design of the Olympic Stadium by (the)a famous designer was too expensive to build. Then the Olympic committee decided to re-design a more 'build'able, cost-efficient stadium and invited local designers for bids. A few months ago, after much fanfare, a new design was finally settled on and it looked like the construction of the new stadium could at last get started.
NOW this! The authority has realised that the new design of the Olympic Stadium did not cater for the Olympic torch. The designers(and the committee) had forgotten about the Olympic torch! Because the new stadium is constructed mainly from wood (a concept thought to be very representative of the Japanese culture), the torch cannot be added onto the roof of the stadium.
It looks like the Olympic committee has to go back to the design table again! Hope they make it in time for the 2020 Olympics.
